Anyone having trouble with their Minn Kota trolling motor Maxxum series?

My first problem is the most annoying. The foot button to give the motor power is a p.i.a.! It sits flush with the base itself so unless the ball of your foot presses exactly on the button, the motor will click on and off repeatedly. To sit and operate it is even harder because you don't have the leverage. Has anyone modified their button (looks like a disc)?

My secong problem with this motor is it will be working fine, then all of a sudden the power quits. So i unplug/plug it back in, still nothing. I have to grab the handle and disengage the motor, then drop it back in the water to work again, to do it all over again and again. Any idea why I would have to do this to make it power again? The cable moves?Anyone having trouble with their Minn Kota trolling motor Maxxum series?
Bein' the Maxxum it should be pretty new (still under warranty)? Shouldn't have ta' do any modifications to foot control, I'd suggest gettin' in touch with the dealer ya' bought it from or Minn Kota' themselves. As for the power failure it sounds like a wiring problem, maybe a ground fault?

I ain't no electrician so my suggestions may not be the right ones regardin' power loss!? Tooooo reiterate, check with dealer or MinnKota ;) ;).

Ain't no fun when your on the water and the D _ _ n thing shows ya' a mind of it's own!x@#%!

Sounds like there may be a relay or something that is tripping itself. When the motor is on for awhile it probably gets hot, then cuts the power to the motor so it doesn't fry anything.

The cause is a direct short to ground, possibly in the motor itself.

Check all the connections up to the motor and make sure the wires are properly connected and not touching a ground source.

If you can't notice anything you will have to have it professionally inspected.
Heard the boss telling someone about some little glitch in the Maxxum line the other day, didn't catch exactly what the issue was, but it is something Minn-Kota knows about. Take it back to the dealer you got it from and let them know what's going on. They might want to check the wiring, but if it's a problem with the motor itself and it's still under warranty, you might as well let them do what needs done with it.

Good luck.
