The addition of another blade (ie 3 blades to 4 for example) is typically recommended for high performance hulls running with high performance horsepower.
I to have a 50lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor that I bought at a nautical "garage" sale at a Marina and it came with both a 2 and 3 blade prop. (the 2 blade was on the motor.) I put this thing on my dinghy. What I found between the two props was that the 3 blade seemed to make less noise and have a little less vibration, along with a bit quicker response. I also think the 3 blade does not run down my batteries as fast. So, I am pleased with it.
I have attached a link, and you can see what they have to say about them... I know, they are trying to sell you one... but my experience has been pretty much what they claim.
Happy %26amp; Safe Boating,
JohnWill replacing my 2 blade propeller on my trolling motor with a 3 blade propeller make it any faster?
There is no relationship between the number of blades and speed.
it is blade "pitch" that determines speed. a higher pitched 2 blade prop will be faster than a lower pitched 3 blade, and vice versa.
All else being equal, fewer blades is more efficient than more blades, but more blades is better balanced. Theoretically, a one-bladed prop would be most efficient, but so unbalanced as to be unusable. Will replacing my 2 blade propeller on my trolling motor with a 3 blade propeller make it any faster?
The 3 blade will give U more thrust as it pushes more water. Faster yes it will move the boat forward faster but not much. The big difference is in wind and current and load.
