Hi mate, Best way is put it all together and on the boat, go out in some really calm protected area and play. spend a couple of hours with it and you will fine tune your foot movements and the ways to operate it and have it down to a fine art before you know it. best way, thats what i did when i first got one. just go and play with it out of everybodies way. Believe me , you will surprise yourself.I do not no how to use a foot pedal on my trolling motor please help?
do you have the instruction book that came with it? press the pedal up for straight forward, and down for backwards, to familiarize yourself with it when you move your foot around on it,.. right for turning right,...to the left side of the pad for left turn, etc.make sure it is faced in the correct direction on the floor of the boat facing the front of the boat if that's where the motor is put.like the hands of a clock it should move the boat where you move your foot to.You could stop at the marina if you still have trouble, see if it's a problem in the wires if you can't figure it out they can check it for you.Go to minn kota service center or visit the website for technical support.I do not no how to use a foot pedal on my trolling motor please help?
Assuming that your trolling motor is already mounted on the front of the boat and you have launched the boat and are in the water: Place the pedal in a comfortable postiion for you,. Most people fix the pedal to the deck with screws to hold it firmly in place. Now, pull the cord. This unlocks the hold-down catch. (there may also be a manual clip that you will have to snap off of the shaft to free it for deployment. Lift it up and it will swivel out over the bow and down into the water. It will automatically lock there. On the pedal you may find an off and on switch along with hi and low speed switch. select "on" and "low" to start with. The hi-low may also be a rotating wheel on the side or on top of the pedal. By placing you foot on it you can roll it back and forth to select speed. On the top of your foot pedal, there will also be a push button. This button is called a momentary switch. It operates ONLY when your foot is pressing it down. Place the right side of your foot on the pedal, left side of the foot slightly elevated so as not to push the switch button. The pedal is operated by pushing your foot (and the pedal ) toe down, or heel down. If I remember correctly. Toe down will turn the underwater motor and propeller to go right, and heel down on the pedal will make it go left.(It could be opposite, you will know when you try though) On top of the "head" of the shaft, there should be an indicator arrow which swivels to point left or right as you push toe down or heel down on the foot pedal. The indicator arrow can be either manual or an electronic display. When the arrow is pointed the direction you want to go, keep the pedal in that position with your foot and lean your foot to the left to push the button. Hold it down as long as you want the motor to run. You can push heel or toe down anytime the motor is running to change direction and alter you course. To stop the motor from running, just rotate you foot off of the button and the motor will stop After using it a while, it will become automatc for you to operate it and the boat will just go where you want with little thinking or efrfort on your part. It becomes an extension of you that you don't have to think about it. Be careful about operating in really shallow water or running into submerged rocks, logs, etc-----especially if you are on high. You can damage the shaft of the motor if you hit hard enough. When you want to use your big outboard to move someplace else, pull the cord on the trolling motor and pull---------this will lift the trolling motor up an back onto the deck. Be sure and push it all the way down until it locks. You'll probably hear a click. I always pull up slightly on it to make sure it is locked. Some trolling motors also have clampdowns to hold the motor in place while you are running. You have to snap them on and off. DO NOT RUN YOUR BIG ENGINE WITH THE TROLLING MOTOR IN THE WATER OR UP AND UNLOCKED. A bounce can deploy the trolling motor into the water while you are at high speed. Very Dangerous both to you and the trolling motor. If you have trouble when you get to the lake, just ask any other boater who has a trolling motor on his boat to give you a quick rundown as to how to use yours. Fishermen are friendly people as a general rule and will not hestitate to help if you ask for advice and help. I do hope this helps you with your problem. The instructions I have given you are generic in nature. Every trolling motor has the same features though, and when you get on the water, it won't take long to figure it out. Be careful out there and wear your life jacket anytime the big motor is running and all the time if you don't swim well. Little children should always have life jacket on when near or on the water. Don't let them con you into lettting them take them off. In most states, it is illegal and in all states it is really dumb to take chances with their lives. I see people every day that do that on the water and will not listen to any advice or council. I've also helped recover the bodies of children and fishermen who ignored the lifejacket rule. Don't you be one of them! Be safe and enjoy your boat and pardon me for the sermon. about safety on the water. You probably already knew that, but I have seen so many that didn't I never miss a chance to preach about life jackets. Hope this helped! Oh, and read the instruction manual and locate the motor's features with it's help before you go to the lake. It will become clear to you. It is not difficult at all to operate and steer the trolling moter, but it can be confusing at first until you have a little practice under your belt. You'll be using it like a pro before you know it! Good luck, and catch one for me!
