can they be used for trolling? i have a 20# motorguide on a 8ft sportsman currently, but going to upgrade to a 30# minn kota if i can use this battery (free)(new), but buying a trolling battery if its required. thanksDeep cycle "starting" battery.?
I think you mean what we call a "dual-purpose" battery.
And yes, it can be used.
It won't last as long as a single-purpose deep cycle battery, but you may not care.
Discharge is fully and then recharge fully, that will help.

If you are only going to use the battery for a trolling motor an AGM type will give the best service. Flattening the battery described will give it a very short life. Any more than 50% discharge is very rough on the battery. A good three stage charger will be an absolute must either way.Deep cycle "starting" battery.?
A typical dual purpose battery has a life expectancy of 200 discharge cycles while a regular deep cycle has 365+. So yes you can use it but don't expect it to last as long as a regular run of the mill deep cycle
