Electric trolling motor cables getting HOT at battery?

I use a 30 lb thrust minn kota on a coleman crawdad. after a while the cables get real hot around the clips. I have replaced the clips and have a good connection. brand new battery also. any ideas??Electric trolling motor cables getting HOT at battery?
You need to trash the quick clips %26amp; install a HD connector to the bolts with wing nuts.
frayed wire at the clip cut 1foot off and reattachElectric trolling motor cables getting HOT at battery?
check cables spin the prop does it turn hard maybe binding

motor issues.
Buy thicker clamps. (heavy duty) from a welding supply shop. Its just the weak point in the loop. Or use automotive post clamps the greater contact area will reduce heat from having high resistance.Electric trolling motor cables getting HOT at battery?
Get rid of clamps and use standard battery cable clamps or ring terminals. Depending on how long a run of wires to motor from battery determines the thickness of cable.

Remember the longer the run the thicker the wire .If your battery is in the back you should try running standard gauge battery cable to motor . I have seen 10 gauge wire work but make sure your connections are tight and clean
Like some others have alluded to... its probably the connection. You have to consider that while you may have large wire and everything looks good you might not be making an appropriate connection at the terminal. When you use larger wire it is to gain more surface area to Carry the current (that's why stranded wire is better than solid wire because it gives you more over all surface area). If your connection is only making contact in a few spots on the terminal then you may be reducing the amount of SURFACE area in contact with the terminal and that will definitely cause it to heat up. Its like the old saying " Your only as strong as your weakest link" ....well your cables are only as strong as the amount of surface area in contact with the terminals.
Yep, they are right, the connection is not capable of carrying the amouunt of electricity you need, it is sorta like trying to run a sprinkler off too small of hose except the hose doesnt heat up.
The wires heat up because of the load being put on the battery. I have a 24 volt system and the wires get warm from the constant use when I'm fishing. You can check to see that you don't have any fishing twine around the shaft. This will run your wires hot and the switch inside of the control head. My brother just replaced his 2 weeks ago for the same problem. Good luck hope this helps
check the connections make sure they are trated for the amperage of the battery

check prop for bing or stiffness
