I have a Minn Kota trolling motor, and im wondering what is the best battery and how much does it cost?

It is trolling a 2 person Jon Boat. Not really going in really deep water, just creeks and some ponds|||Buy the Wal Mart brand. They work well, last and have a good warranty.

Interstate batteries are overpriced and overrated.|||Typically, any deep cell battery will get the job done for a trolling motor, just don't go too cheap. I have a 10 foot Pelican Bass Raider with a Minn Kota 40 pound thrust, which lasts me all day long with plenty of charge to spare.

I'm running an Interstate battery right now, and like it a lot. We've always used Interstate in our main boat as well, with no problems. They range anywhere from about 60 bucks up to around 200 from what I have seen. The ones that we run are about 150 a piece. 150 bucks isn't totally necessary though. I've used 70 dollar batteries in my plastic boat without issues. We use the more expensive ones in our main boat. Just be sure that you get a deep cycle marine battery for trolling, and not a marine cranking battery. I wasn't paying attention one time, and ended up with a cranking battery instead of a trolling battery. Within a couple of weeks, the battery was useless.

You'll also need a battery charger if you don't already have one. Be sure that you get a charger with different charging settings. A 2 amp charge and a 10 amp charge is essential. Use the 2 amp setting for charging over night, and the 10 amp for quicker charging. And one more thing, be sure the charger is designed to shut off after the battery is fully charged. If not, you'll eventually ruin the battery.
