Difference between 50 and 55lb thrust minn kota trolling motor?

Not much. Fifty five lbs thrust is the largest made in 12 volt. There are higher but you need two batteries and 24 volts. Both 50 and 55 would be sufficient for a small boat on a lake even in windy conditions. If you are planning to be on a river you will need more power. Figure a 50 lbs thrust is twice as powerful as a 25 lbs thrust. that would be a big difference. An electric trolling motor is basically an electric motor on a stick. The pound thrust rating refers to the size and power of the motor at optimal output. In my experience going bigger is better but the motor will be heavier. Hope that helps.Difference between 50 and 55lb thrust minn kota trolling motor?

Thrust basically means horsepower, in other words the higher the number = more power/speed;)...%26lt; ' ( (( %26gt; %26lt;Difference between 50 and 55lb thrust minn kota trolling motor?
I put a 52 lb thrust Minn-Kota on a 15 ft. canoe and that puppy would snap your head back when you cranked it up. Overkill? Maybe, but I got to where I was going in no time at all! Better to be over-powered than under-powered. Boating on Lake Erie taught me that one. It's not how fast you can get out there that counts...It's how fast you can get back when that lake starts to kick up and get rough!
Thrust means the amount of force it takes to move an object forward. A 55lb thrust would push a 100lb. boat faster than a 50lb. thrust. But to me, the cost difference would not justify the extra 5lbs. of thrust. Hope this helps!!!
